On Wednesday 17th June 2009 sculptor Manolo Caba, invited to Broadbottom by the District Assembly, opened his sculpture ‘Acogida’ (Friendship) at Catnip Park, Broadbottom. Despite the rain, Longdendale Community Language College played and sang Spanish songs, and the audience of children from Broadbottom School, local people and dignitaries from Tameside Council all enjoyed the event.
Manolo Caba lives in Moclin (‘Village Exchange’ run a friendship exchange group called ‘Pueblo Intercambio’ with them). He works in metal as well as running a museum and workshop in his home village. He was accompanied by his friend Natividad Rodrigues Lopez on their first visit to the north of England (the first to the UK by Manolo) and they were impressed by the beautiful countryside, its history and our friendliness in Broadbottom.
